Optimization of HCM calculations for cell sites
The frequency coordination of mobile networks with foreign countries is based on the multinational "HCM-Agreement", which limits the frequency planning of the mobile network operator extensively, especially near the borders. In a worst case scenario, the economic use of such a site can be obsolete. At least, these (preference-) situations limit the available frequency resources or possible radio power of affected sites. The negative effects are measurable to frequency- or coverage planning. The compliance of the international coordination agreement is observed by the national regulators. In Germany, the regulatory aurthority is the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA).
The individual coordination situation of a radio cell is determined by the standardized HCM calculation algorithm (harmonized calculation method) and depends on various radio parameters. However, the resulting limitations of a radio cell are often the fault of single radio parameters. These are the cases in which Mentopolis can support you.
We can offer you the best possible HCM situation for existing or planned radio cells or complete parts of a radio network (e.g. near the border).
The HCM optimization service (for TETRA, LTE, GSM-R, GSM and UMTS) consists of:
- Analysis of the HCM situation (2-/3- border situations, antenna diagrams)
- Optimization of HCM Pattern for each individual cellular situation
- Identification of alternative radio parameter sets per cell
The optimization method can also be used for existing cell sites. An advanced regulatory situation gathers additional resources (frequencies, radio power) for the radio network and can help to improve the quality and economic efficiency. The optimization algorithms have been in use for several years and are of course conform to HCM.
We can offer you the optimization as single service or in form of a coaching of radio network planners with special software solutions from Mentopolis (Antenna pattern, HCM field strength calculation and HCM prediction).
